Opening an Encrypted E-Mail

To protect your privacy email can be sent encrypted

Hi there. My name is Courtney and today I’m going to go over how to open a secure email message. Now, you might get one of these messages from us if you’ve requested information to be sent to you electronically that has to either follow HIPAA guidelines or just might contain sensitive information pertaining to your business. So let’s take a look.

Now I’m going to demonstrate using a Gmail platform, but this should work roughly the same way on any email platform you have. So if you’ll just go to your inbox and click on the message that was sent to you, then you’ll see that there is an attachment. That is what contains the actual message with any actual attachments that we sent to you via email. Now if you just click on it, then it’s going to take you to the screen that tells you that you just have to save and open it, so you don’t want to do that.

So if you go back, you’ll see there’s actually a download arrow. So you’ll select that and then down here at the bottom, then you would just click it and it’ll pop up and ask you if you would like to either sign in or use a one time passcode. In this particular case, you’re going to select, use a one time passcode. And so when you select that, it should pop right up to a screen for you to be able to enter in that passcode.

Now, if you go back to your email inbox, then that one time passcode should have been emailed to you fairly quickly. So you can just double click that and then copy it and then go back to the message and then just paste it into that same little box and then click continue. And then it should pop right up to the message that was sent to you. And then you should be able to open and download and save any attachments that were included in the email. So that should just about cover how to open a secure email message, but if you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call here at the office. Thank you so much.
